Ayurveda for Modern Living
You do not need to move to the forest. Ayurveda is a system of daily rhythms — food, sleep, work, movement — that can be adapted to city life without losing its intelligence.
Ayurveda organises life around three functional principles (doṣas): vāta (movement), pitta (transformation), kapha (structure). Every person carries all three in a unique proportion. Balance is not sameness — it is the return to your own proportion.
Eat with the sun
Digestive fire (agni) is strongest between 10am and 2pm. Make lunch the largest meal, keep dinner light and early, and notice how sleep improves within a week.
Warm water, warm oil, warm food
For most constitutions in most seasons, warm is medicinal. Sip warm water through the day, self-massage with sesame or coconut oil (abhyaṅga) two mornings a week, and prefer cooked meals over raw ones during colder months.
Rhythm before intensity
Consistent bedtime, consistent meal timings and gentle daily movement outperform intense weekend regimens. Ayurveda treats regularity as a therapy in itself.
