Building a Sustainable Home Practice
A practice that lasts is not the one that is most impressive — it is the one that survives your busiest, most tired week.
Most people begin yoga inspired, and stop within six weeks. The reason is rarely lack of interest — it is a mismatch between ambition and daily life. A sustainable practice is designed for your real schedule, not your ideal one.
Anchor to something you already do
Attach the practice to an existing cue: after brushing your teeth, before your first coffee, right after you close your laptop. Behavioural science calls this habit-stacking; the yogic tradition calls it saṅkalpa — the quiet resolve that reshapes a life.
Ten minutes beats sixty (that never happens)
Design a ten-minute floor: one gentle warm-up, one balancing pose, one seated posture, three minutes of breath, two minutes of stillness. On good days you will extend it naturally. On hard days you will still do it.
Prepare the space, not just the mind
Leave the mat unrolled. Keep a bolster and blanket nearby. Environment carries more of the weight than willpower.
